Yesterday I was running errands. I popped into the office supply store to get copy paper. They had a special on four big boxes of Kleenex for $3.99. This is a good deal. When I got to the tissues there was another woman picking some up, too. I said in amazement: This is a really good deal?!
She agreed, but was more excited about the colors of the boxes in the four pack:
You never see the colors mixed like this! I like to match it to my granite countertops.
I just smiled. Although I'm not too keen on them, granite countertops are a really big deal where I live. A symbol of status. (thank you HGTV).
When I got home I putt my tissues boxes where they belong: hidden in a kitchen cabinet! (that's where my grandma kept them)
The tissue box matching lady got me thinking about when I was a kid and would go to the grocery store with my mom. She would let me pick out my very own box of tissues.
I usually chose rainbows or balloons. And it really satisfied me. Looking back, I see that picking out my own box for my own room was one way I began to take ownership of my space and my style.
Full circle moment. Thank you, Kleenex.
So if you want match your tissue boxes to your decor or hide them away like me -either way-
you're making conscious choices for your space. And in my book, that's what makes a house a home. What little touches make your house your home?
